First meet our house parents...
Sergie
Yurchuck -- originally from
Vinnitsa, took on the call to help complete the
construction of the home of House of James 1 when Sean
Johnson arrived in Vinnitsa, Ukraine in 2003. He came to
know Christ in 2002 after his neighbor invited him and
his family to church. Sergei has played a major role in
getting the house livable and ready for the kids. He has
now a the house father at House of James 2.
Olga
Yurchuck -- originally
from Vinnitsa, was a children’s director at First Church
of the Nazarene in Vinnitsa. Then she took the call to
be the cook at the House of James 1. She also helped the
children with their homework and other needs. She is
married to Sergei and they have two boys Vitalik and
Igor. She is now the house mother at House of James 2.
Sveta (01-15-1995) moved into House of James 2 on the 10th
of June 2008. Her mother died from cancer in February
2007. Her father is an alcoholic and he never showed
interest in Sveta. She and her father moved in with an
abusive farmer who made them feed the pigs and whatever
else he wanted done. He paid the father $10 a month for
all their work and fed them poorly. Sveta never really
understood what love was, until she moved in House of
James 2. It’s only been a short time, but she is
enjoying her new life and becoming good friends with
Vica from House of James 1. Her sister is Alisa.
Yana
(02-02-1998) moved into House of James 2 on the
10th of June 2008. She lived in an abandoned house,
where she and her siblings would have to enter through a
hole in the roof. The mother would leave for days and
the kids would go without food. Her mother is a
prostitute and has never tried to contact them for over
a year. Her father died back in 1999. She finally has a
place that she can call home. She loves to play with her
little brother and sister. She likes to show them how to
do different things. Her sister is Deona and her brother
is Victor.
Alisa
(08-15-2001) moved into House of
James 2 on the 10th of June 2008. She shared the same
mother as Sveta, who died from cancer. They also have
the same father, the alcoholic. Alisa also had to work
on the farm with Sveta and had to go through the same
struggles as her sister. She has a long road ahead of
her to learning new things. She has never had anyone
around to teach her anything. She is warming up to her
new family. She loves to play house with the rest of the
kids.
Deona
(10-24-2003) moved into House of James 2 on the 10
of June 2008. She has the same story as her sister Yana.
She lived in the abandoned house and would also go days
without food while her mom was out prostituting. When
the social workers found her, she was near death from
starvation. She lived in a public orphanage for over a
year. Now she is healthy and always has a smile. She
loves spending time with her new mom and dad. Her sister
is Yana and her brother is Victor.
Victor
(02-20-2005) moved into House of James 2 on the
10th of June 2008. He has the same story has his sisters
Yana and Deona. He lived in the abandoned house and was
also near death when the social workers found him. He is
now healthy like his sister Deona. He is such a
character. He makes everyone laugh. He loves to eat and
go for rides in the car.
Igor
His mom and dad are the house
parents. He is studying at a technical college. He is a
big help with the kids. He is also involved with
different church functions. Pastors are always asking
for his help when it’s time to do kids’ camps. He is a
great example for the kids.
Vitalik
His mom and dad are the house parents. He can’t wait for
more boys to move in the house. He is studying the
English language and he is also a good example when it
comes to homework. He is good friends with Max from
House of James 1.
